Prime Lithium AG was founded as a subsidiary of Deutsche Rohstoff AG in 2021.

As one of the first production companies for lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LHM) in Germany, our aim is to close the gap between the raw materials industry and the European value chain in the field of electromobility. We specialize in the production of battery-grade lithium, which is the key component for the manufacturing of cathode materials in high-performance lithium-ion batteries.

Our interdisciplinary team of chemists and process engineers, stationed at the Prime Lithium Research and Development Center in Stade since July 2023, employs state-of-the-art equipment and complex simulation methods to address chemical and process engineering tasks. With our sustainable production of lithium hydroxide, we contribute our chemical expertise to enable further increases in the performance of batteries for electric vehicles.

Through our technologies and sustainable production methods, we aspire to provide significant momentum for the development and operation of a resilient and sustainable battery value chain in Germany. Our initiative not only lays the groundwork for new value chains but also safeguards employment during structural changes, ensuring the resilience of the automotive industry in Germany and Europe for the foreseeable future.

Prioritizing Sustainable Development ahead of Production

Lithium derivatives for batteries demand purity exceeding 99.5%. Despite various global production processes, none are fully matured. The surge in lithium demand has unfortunately led to the neglect of fundamental principles in chemical production worldwide.

Therefore, we are optimizing the “soda leach process” before production, ensuring a value-adding approach for the utmost and consistent quality of this invaluable raw material. Our sustainable process is designed with a forward-looking perspective, anticipating even higher future demands on battery performance to be met in the best possible way.

Strategic Development Targets

In the pilot phase, each individual process step is trimmed to conserve resources and optimize yield and plant availability. Besides striving for maximum product purity and quality consistency, our aim is to enhance the sustainability of the entire process.

Our objective is not just manufacturing a high-tech product but developing a resource-efficient, sustainable process. This guarantees consistent, high-quality batteries, emphasizing expanded “raw material flexibility” to efficiently use diverse raw materials from global sources.

Site Stade

Our site, integrated into an existing chemical park, offers access to a well-established and highly developed infrastructure, ensuring Prime Lithium’s ability to establish cost-effective production in the long run. Positioned in close proximity to both an electromobility cluster and  EV manufacturers, and linked to a deep seaport, Stade Chemical Park is a perfect fit for the expansion of the battery value chain, becoming a part of the emerging battery cluster in northern Germany.

This location not only facilitates efficient shipping of the by-product Analcime to the European building materials industry, but also allows us to concentrate on our core business and establish sustainable, cost-effective production for the long term.
